WOBURN, MA—After originally voting against the temporary use of the Clapp School facility by the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club and the Woburn Public Library on March 28, Woburn City Council changed course, voting in favor of the temporary use of the facility by the club.
During Tuesday night's meeting of City Council, the Aldermen voted 8-1 in favor of allowing the use of the Clapp School facility for the Boys & Girls Club alone. Ward 1 Alderman Joanne E. Campbell was the lone vote opposed to the move, and the club will only be able to utilize the facility until October of 2017.

The decision comes after a session of spirited and emotional debate on March 28, which resulted in a 4-5 vote opposed to allowing the temporary use of the Clapp facility. However, Ward 5 Alderman Darlene Mercer-Bruen filed a notice of intent to reconsider her vote, and the matter was brought before City Council once again.

Boys & Girls Club officials stated on numerous occasions that the club would be forced to close if the use of the Clapp School facility was not allowed. According to the City Clerk's office, the Woburn Public Library will be seeking other options during its renovation.
Many residents took to social media to voice their opinions.
