Woburn Coronavirus: Mayor Declares Local State Of Emergency
The declaration will help the city get state and federal funding, the city said.
WOBURN, MA — Mayor Scott Galvin declared a local state of emergency, Tuesday, in response to the new coronavirus outbreak.
The declaration is effective March 10, the date Gov. Charlie Baker declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts. The local declaration will give the city better access to state and federal funding including FEMA reimbursement, according to the city. It also will "support the issuance of further orders to effectuate this Declaration of Emergency and otherwise to preserve health, safety and welfare."
Woburn has had 34 confirmed cases of the virus, as of Tuesday afternoon. Two residents have died and eight have recovered and left isolation.
