New Mexican Eatery Officially Open In Worcester

The downtown Worcester restaurant features tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and complimentary chips and salsa.

WORCESTER, MA — A new Mexican restaurant has officially opened its doors in downtown Worcester, adding another international dining option to the city’s growing restaurant scene.

Rio Viejo Cocina de México began welcoming guests at 50 Franklin St. on Mar. 30. The brand-new eatery celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Joe Petty.

"A very special thank you to the Mayor for taking the time to join us—it meant so much to us to share such an important moment together," the business wrote in a post shared on Facebook. "We are also incredibly grateful to every single person who came out to support us. Your presence, kind words, and enthusiasm made us feel at home in the most beautiful way."

The restaurant's extensive two-page menu boasts a variety of Mexican favorites, including meat and seafood dishes, quesadillas, enchiladas, and fajitas. The restaurant also says chips and salsa are always free.

The eatery is located in the former historic Bancroft Hotel, which opened in 1913. The space used to be occupied by Craft Table & Bar.

Rio Viejo Cocina de México is joining a few other restaurants on Franklin Street, including Shawarma Palace and Chashu Ramen + Izakaya, while other favorites like 110 Grill and Ruth's Chris Steak House are located nearby.
