Man Killed In Burncoat Shooting That Sent Schools Into Lockdown

WORCESTER, MA — A shooting Monday morning in the Burncoat neighborhood that sent schools into lockdown has turned into a homicide investigation, according to police.

Worcester police responded to a shooting just after 8:30 a.m. at a home at 480 Burncoat St. near the corner of Croyden Street. Police said one person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, but did not immediately provide more details about the severity of the shooting.

In an update Monday afternoon, police said the 28-year-old victim died at a local hospital, and that police were investigating his shooting as a homicide.

After the shooting, Quinsigamond Community College and nearby public schools were placed on lockdown Monday for a brief time. All the schools reopened by around 11 a.m., and QCC was planning to hold evening classes.
