'We Should Be Rejecting Violence'
This local man opposes having a gun store, along with a candidate's sign of support next to it, in Worcester.

Letter submitted:
While driving into Worcester on 290, seeing a giant gun store alongside a mural in support of a political candidate running on a platform of bigotry and violence is not a welcoming sight.
Since I know that there are so many decent and kind people in Worcester, I think that it is just plain awful that our community has become the kind of place where some people feel a need to arm themselves.
I can understand wanting to do something to keep yourself safe, but if taking action is going to be meaningful it must be evidence based, and a continually growing body of research indicates that having more guns in a community makes it less safe.
We should be rejecting violence, not providing opportunities to purchase products that are intended only to kill people. We should not support businesses that profit from the misery of others. We should not elect or endorse politicians who are so casual about bigotry and so quick to endorse violence.
