Capture A Bird's-Eye View Of MI's Most Popular Fail Foliage Spot
State officials are offering chairlift rides to the top of the Porkies ski hill, in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.

ONTONAGON, MI — With fall colors about ready to peak in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, you can take a chairlift ride to get a bird's-eye view of one of the nation's most popular fall foliage spots.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering chairlift rides to the top of the Porkies ski hill, in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park.
The chairlift will be open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8, from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 14, from noon to 6 p.m.

Guests will need a recreation passport to enter the park and a lift ticket, which costs $10. Guests can buy the tickets at the chalet ticket office. There are no advanced reservations.
Ontonagon, where the Porcupine Mountains are located, was one of two Michigan places picked by Country Living Magazine as the best spots for fall foliage in the nation.

The region offers more than 1,200 miles of free-running streams and rivers and pristine Lake Superior beaches. Officials at the Porcupine Mountains Ontonagon Area Convention & Visitors Bureau say the area is "one of the most spectacular fall travel destinations in the Midwest."
