NEW: Freeze Your Pain Away in Less Than 3 Minutes

CryoWorks, a new business in Berkley, can help you manage your pain more quickly and efficiently than some traditional approaches.

Eric Spector, Metro Detroit’s newest cryotherapy spa owner, knows first-hand the difference between temporary pain relief and real pain management.

For years, Spector, 50, of Royal Oak, an attorney and former professional motorcycle superbike AMA racer, tried to manage the aches and pains he endured from over a decade of racing and training. He used various medical approaches including physical therapy, steroid cortisone injections, chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and traction.

But the pain did not dissipate. After falling off bicycles and crashing motorcycles thousands of times, Spector’s list of bone, joint and muscle ailments continued to grow. Severe lower back disk issues, inflamed joints, torn tendons, bone fractures and sprains topped that list.

“I didn’t want to give up riding and rock climbing,” Spector said. “The injuries had taken a huge toll on my body; I lived with aches and pains.”

Spector heard about the benefits of Cryotherapy and its natural healing abilities, and he sought out treatment.

Cryotherapy was the first treatment that significantly reduced Spector’s inflammation and pain. After one session, the pain diminished. With three treatments, the pain disappeared. Finally, Spector could move freely without pain. He was hooked.

“Cryotherapy turned back the clock for me in my body,” said Spector, who on Aug. 1 opened CryoWorks in Berkley. “I wanted to offer cryotherapy to others so they too could benefit in the neighborhood where I live and work.”

Cryotherapy is a whole body cold treatment option for people seeking faster muscle and joint relief from injury and fatigue. It is a non-invasive pain management treatment that essentially freezes the pain away by soothing body aches and helping sore muscles recover in less than 3 minutes.

It’s a relatively new concept in Michigan, but has been around since it was invented in Japan during the 1970s to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

Cryotherapy converts liquid nitrogen into a dry gas chamber to minus 200 degrees below zero. The person stands inside – typically wearing underwear with hands and feet covered – while nitrogen gas fills the chamber. There is an opening at the top of the chamber to avoid full head exposure.

Cryotherapy is already popular on the east and west coasts. Professional, Olympic and cross fit athletes give the treatment high praise. Basketball great Lebron James and boxing champ Floyd Mayweather even have personal machines in their homes.

Cryoworks Michigan will primarily serve individuals 14 years and older and athletic teams from the communities of Berkley, Clawson, Huntington Woods, Royal Oak, Oak Park and Ferndale.

Today Spector feels great. Once again, he is enjoying his outdoor adventure sports pain free. “If I ride my dirt bike all day and suffer sore knees, I can do a treatment and feel 10 times better immediately coming out,” he said. “A day later, I will be back to 100 percent.”

While not intended to cure diseases, cryotherapy is safe and activates the body’s natural healing system. It reduces inflammation, boosts metabolism, stimulates recovery from sports injuries, alleviates pain, softens the skin and provides relief from arthritis. This treatment is not FDA approved.

“It’s amazing,” Spector added. “It works immediately, but it is best to do multiple treatments since it lets your body build on the healing process.”

CryoWorks is located at 27803 Woodward Avenue in Berkley, on the west side of the road, just north of to the Vinsetta Garage. Call 248-607-9171, or email cryoworksmichigan@gmail.com for information, or to make an appointment.
