2 Birmingham Schools Among Michigan's Best: U.S. News Rankings 2016

Both Seaholm and Groves high schools made the list of the top schools.

BIRMINGHAM, MI – Two Birmingham Public Schools high schools are among the top in Michigan, according to the annual U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools ranking. The 2016 list was released April 18.

The sixth-best high school in Michigan is Ernest W. Seaholm High School, which ranked 44tth nationally, and Wylie E. Groves High School in Beverly Hills is the 25th best school in the state. That school ranked 852nd among the 21,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia that were ranked by the magazine.

"Schools were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals based on their performance on state assessments, their graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college,” according to U.S. News & World Report, which looked at curriculum, test scores and student demographics.

About Seaholm, which earned a gold award, the magazine said:

“Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Ernest W. Seaholm High School is 66 percent. The student body makeup is 50 percent male and 50 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 11 percent.”

About Wylie E. Groves, which earned a silver award, U.S. News said:

“Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Wylie E. Groves High School is 52 percent. The student body makeup is 51 percent male and 49 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 29 percent.”
