BIRMINGHAM, MI – A Birmingham artist’s arresting collection of equine art is featured in an exhibit at a Southfield gallery through early-January.
Artist Weatherly Stroh told The Oakland Press the eyes are the most challenging part of her paintings, which were featured in the portfolio she presented to win the 2014 MI Great Artist online competition.

Her goal as an artist is to capture the uniqueness of each animal.
“They are all so different,” she said. “Capturing that in paint is fun.”
The works in the show feature “pretty much close-up, from different angles against simple backgrounds — dark or on linen,” Stroh said.
Stroh has sold her paintings all over the United States, and is currently working on a commission from a customer in France. She is a fifth-generation member of the Stroh’s Brewing family, as well as the great-grand-niece of American impressionist painter Gari Melchers, who has some works among the Detroit Institute of Art collection.
