Charges Filed in Death of Trooper Dragged for Several Miles

If convicted of the two felony charges, Charles Warren Jr., 69, faces up to 15 years in prison.

An Oakland County man has been charged with two felonies in the death of a state trooper who was dragged for several miles after his motorcycle patrol unit was struck in traffic.

Michigan State Police said in a statement Friday that Charles Raymond Warren Jr., 69 of Waterford, was arraigned in 52-2 District Court in Clarkston on charges of reckless driving causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident — when at fault — resulting in death.

The trooper, Chad Wolf, 38, was on routine patrol on Dixie Highway near I-75 in Springfield Township at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 28 when Warren, who was hauling a trailer behind his vehicle, abruptly switched lanes and allegedly struck Wolf’s department-issued motorcycle.

According to reports at the time, Warren proceeded several miles before pulling into a rest stop near Holly, where witnesses saw what had happened and called police.

If convicted of the charges, Warren faces of maximum of 15 years on each count.
