Ferndale’s Jacob Dotson: Jan. 16-20 Patch Athlete of the Week

’s Jacob Dotson won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for Jan. 16-20 with 1,644 votes after among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 82 percent of the votes cast last week.

The 6-foot-6 senior for the Eagles debuted with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Oak Park on Jan. 16. The transfer then had another double-double in a key Oakland Activities Association Blue division game against Troy on Jan. 20. Dotson had 21 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Ferndale won its sixth straight, 83-74 over the Colts.

Coach Tom Staton called Dotson a “force on the inside” and is really excited what he brings to Ferndale.

“He holds down the middle for us offensively and defensively,” Staton said.

His presence on the inside will prevent teams from double-teaming the Eagles' top scorer, Nate Stepney, and will give point guard Jordan Ellis a big target on the fast break.

“He gives us a lot of size, but he brings so much to the table athletically,” Staton said. “He’s a runner and a jumper.”

Yante Maten: Bloomfield Hills Lahser big man had two double-doubles in three games.

Rachel Rea: The Andover High School girls basketball guard had 25 points and four 3-pointers in a win against rival Lahser.  

Bradley Zucker – At Clark Park, the Berkley High School hockey player had a hat trick against West Bloomfield in a 4-0 win.
