Groves Football Celebrates First Home Game of the Year

While the Falcons defeated North Farmington 22-15, parents and fans say "being part of the first home game is exciting."

celebrated its first home football game of the season Friday night, beating the North Farmington Raiders 22-15.

Groves PTA presidents Jill Robnett was passing out pom-poms before the game even started, helping to get the large crowd pumped. “Being part of the first home game is exciting,” she said.

Groves parent and grandparent Kathy DeRonne agreed. DeRonne had eight children graduate from Groves and her granddaughter, freshman Maria Roma, is now part of the Groves band. Meanwhile, Langston Jones said his son — senior Stephen Jones and No. 24 on the Groves squad — is more excited than ever for the year.

“He says he’s excited every year, but this year is special for him,” he said.

Meanwhile on the playing field, the evening was highlighted by Groves’ Blake Jackson’s 60-yard interception at the start of the third quarter, followed by two fourth-quarter touchdowns by Mark Corles and Alexander Warren for Groves that gave the Falcons the edge.
