Bloomfield Hills Swim and Tennis Club Alive and Well
On the brink of bankruptcy, local residents save the former Bloomfield Surf Club in time to celebrate tonight's 50th anniversary.
Members of the new are inviting the general public to celebrate the local institution's 50th birthday and revival with an open house tonight.
From 7-9 p.m., attendees can tour and use all of the club's facilities and see the renovations made to the former Bloomfield Surf Club. Joining the celebration will be special guest and fitness guru Peter Nielsen, a former Mr. International Universe.

“We are excited for people to see everything that has been renovated and be able to celebrate our 50th year,” said member and Bloomfield Township resident Greg Deel in a press release.
The club officially reopened Memorial Day Weekend, and can be a great asset to the community, given the alternative, said Bloomfield Township Supervisor Leo Savoie.

"I’m glad that we were able to work with the management at Bloomfield Hills Swim & Tennis to keep the Club open for the community," Savoie said. “I’m also very excited about the substantial improvements that are under way. This will be a vibrant club for the community for years to come, as opposed to being another vacant property in the area.”
The Bloomfield Hills Swim & Tennis Club pool is open to members 7 days a week from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Facilities include a 6-lane pool with a 2-board diving well and a baby pool; six tennis courts (2 lighted); a six-hoop basketball court; plus kid-favorites like wallball, wiffleball, tetherball, and gaga pit. The Club also offers a competitive swim team and many social events a year, including cookouts, movie nights, and team campouts.
