Bloomfield Twp. Library Director to Retire

Karen Kotulis-Carter will leave the Bloomfield Township Public Library in August after 13 years as executive director.

Karen Kotulis-Carter will retire as executive director of the Bloomfield Township Public Library this summer.

After 13 years leading the township's reputable library, Kotulis-Carter confirmed Thursday that she will step down effective Aug. 1, which should give the library board plenty of time to find a successor. She said she informed board members of the decision last month.

Board members will review and discuss a library director succession plan that Kotulis-Carter said she drafted at their April board meeting. She opted not to comment about the decision Thursday, but that didn't stop other township officials from weighing in.

"She's done a great job getting the library to where it is today, and there's a great staff behind her that has worked well under her leadership," Bloomfield Township Supervisor Leo Savoie said.

Library Trustee Pam Williams said she appreciated Kotulis-Carter's focus on the library's mission despite recently challenging financial times

"She always put the township taxpayers first, no matter what," Williams said.
