Why Go: Bloomfield Township invites the public to participate in several different hands-on activities that highlight the work done by various departments. The 25-year-old tradition coincides with National Fire Prevention Week and is appropriately themed "Protect Your Family from Fire."

  • The fire department will perform two live-burn demontstrations that show how quickly oil on a stove can start a fire, and how fast a fire spreads through a fake living room. Also expected is a visit from the University of Michigan Medical Center's Survival Flight helicopter, which will be open for viewing.
  • The police department will conduct child safety-seat inspections and open doors for visitors to tour the station, view the property room and dispatch center. Residents can also take a ride in a patrol car and see K-9 unit demonstrations.
  • Plow trucks from the pubic works department will be available for rides, an road and water maintenace vehicles will also be on display.
  • The senior center will be open for tours, and those that want to support Meals on Wheels can participate in a charity workout.
  • The clerk's office will be open for residents to apply for or renew their passports, and the assessor's office will be open to discuss property-owner assessments one-on-one.

There will be other activities for children and adults, and complimentary pizza, hot dogs, apple cider, doughnuts and candy will be provided.
