Judge Sam Salamey set bond at $400,000 cash and ordered Watts to wear a GPS tether. His preliminary examination is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 4 in 19th District Court.

Police said in a statement that the victim, 24, of Detroit, was shopping at Hutch’s Jewelry Store with a friend about 4;30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. When he exited the store, Watts allegedly grabbed the sunglasses off his face.

The victim, who has a concealed pistol permit, told police that when Watts allegedly reached for his handgun, he fired two rounds from his pistol.

The mall, located at 18900 Michigan Ave., was placed on lockdown for about two hours, and two nearby college — Henry Ford College and the University of Michigan-Dearborn — cancelled Monday evening classes.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said officers resolved the situation quickly, and that his department “will continue to vigorously work to maintain a safe community for our residents and visitors, especially as we enter the holiday shopping season.”
