Hillary Clinton to Campaign in Detroit: 2016 Election

Media will be in town for the North American International Auto Show when Democratic frontrunner visits, but it's unclear if she'll attend.

DETROIT, MI – Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton will make a Jan. 12 campaign stop in Detroit that coincides with the second day of the media preview North American International Auto Show.

The former secretary of state’s campaign called the event a “very special evening with many state and local officials and special guests,” according to an email received by The Detroit News.

The exact location of the fund-raiser, to be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m., is unclear. Ticket prices start at $300.

Josh Schwerin, a spokesman for Hillary for America, told the newspaper the campaign hasn’t planned any public events to coincide with the fund-raiser, and Detroit Auto Dealers Association spokesman Max Muncey said he hasn’t heard if Clinton plans to attend the auto show, which will be held at the Cobo Center.

Clinton has a 5 percent lead over Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, 46 percent to 41 percent, according to an average of polls by Real Clear Politics.

The event will be Clinton’s second stop in Michigan since announcing her candidacy.

In July, a $2,700-a-ticket fund-raiser was held at the Grosse Pointe home of Democratic political strategist Jill Alper and her husband, David Katz. Former President Bill Clinton headlined a fund-raiser for his wife’s presidential campaign at the Bingham Farms home of Doreen Hermelin in October.
