📰 News we're reading

1. End of Dearborn's Telegraph and Michigan Avenue construction delayed again (newsbreak.com) — Expect traffic headaches a bit longer at Telegraph and Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, where construction is now extended through the end of October. MDOT crews uncovered unexpected bridge damage and worsening concrete supports, forcing extra repairs that keep lanes closed and push back relief for nearby residents and commuters who've already endured months of detours and delays.

2. Dental manager charged with a dozen-plus felonies (drbicuspid.com) — Patients in Dearborn may want to review their dental records after a manager at Dearborn Family Smiles was charged with multiple felonies for allegedly billing Medicaid for crowns that were never done. State prosecutors say the Dearborn resident faces up to 20 years if convicted of running a criminal enterprise, though she remains presumed innocent as the case proceeds.

3. 'So much uncertainty': Michigan's Arab American businesses navigate Trump's Canada trade war (execreview.com) — Dearborn's Yemeni cafes and Arab American businesses are feeling the ripple effects of Trump's escalating trade dispute with Canada, from paused expansions to uncertainty over cross‑border customers. Local spots like Qahwah House and Masri Sweets still draw loyal Canadian visitors, but shifting tariffs and politics are forcing Dearborn owners to rethink investments and brace for possible sales declines.

4. AAA: More than half of adults in Michigan have seen children ride e-bikes or e-scooters without helmets (thealpenanews.com) — Families in Dearborn are being urged by AAA to make sure kids wear properly rated helmets when riding e-bikes and e-scooters, as injuries among young riders have surged. A new survey of Michigan adults shows most have seen children riding without helmets, and many support stronger safety requirements, prompting detailed guidance on helmet types and state laws.

5. Teaching About the Freedom To Read Starts Early (schoollibraryjournal.com) — A Dearborn PreS–8 librarian is helping local kids discover the freedom to choose their own books, even as book bans surge nationwide. Her approach, and those of colleagues elsewhere, focuses on teaching young children about choice, fairness, and respecting others' reading decisions long before they encounter heated censorship debates.
