Police Investigate Possible Link Between Shooting Of 2 Cops And WSU Officer's Murder
The officers were in the area investigating the November murder of Wayne State University Sgt. Collin Rose.

(Updated) DETROIT, MI — Police in Detroit are investigating whether a man taken into custody late Wednesday after the shooting of two police officers was involved in the murder late last year of Wayne State University Police Sgt. Collin Rose.
At a Thursday morning news conference, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Raymond Dorman isn't a suspect, but said there are similarities, both in Dorman’s appearance and demeanor, that are similar to the Rose case.
Dorman, 60, was captured late Wednesday after an intense manhunt involving more than 200 local police officers and federal agents. He is suspected of shooting two Detroit police officers around 8:30 p.m. on the city's west side.

Craig told reporters Thursday that Dorman was “agitated” and “very violent.”
“Clearly, he was aggressively trying to kill our officers,” Craig said.

When Dorman was arrested, he was “preparing to engage” with police, Craig said.
The police chieef dismissed rumors that Dorman had confessed to shooting Rose. Ballistics tests are being conducted on the .38-caliber revolver seized from Dorman, Craig said.
The two injured officers, whose names aren’t being released, were in the area investigating the murder of Rose, Craig said. Rose died Nov. 23, 2016, after he had been shot in the head. Police made an arrest in the shooting, but charges were dismissed after it was determined they had the wrong man.
The shooting of the two officers occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Tillman and Ash streets near the Interstate 96 service drive, a known narcotics trafficking area, WDIV-TV reported. He was acting suspiciously and when the officers approached him, he reached into his pocket for a handgun and shot them, police said.
Craig told the TV station that one of the officers was shot once in the ankle and twice in the upper torso, but was wearing protective armor that likely saved his life. The second officer was shot in the neck and was in serious condition late Wednesday.
“We're pretty sure they're going to make it,” Commander Nick Kyriacou of the 10th Precinct told the Detroit Free Press. The officer who was shot in the neck is in serious condition.
