Detroit Roller Derby Anticipates Championship Activities

The Detroit Roller Derby's Championship game will be held on March 18.

From Detroit Roller Derby: We know most people are planning to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with some green beer perhaps chased by some aspirin the next day but let's keep the party going. This one won't make your head hurt but it may make it spin a little bit from all the action. The Detroit Pistoffs will face off against the D-Funk Allstars on March 18th in Detroit Roller Derby's (DRD) Championship game. Both teams have been training hard for the past several months in hopes of taking home the acclaimed title and the "Olive" trophy. Hundreds of people are expected to come out to the Masonic Temple to cheer on their favorite skaters in the final home team game of the season.

Detroit Men's Roller Derby will warm up the crowd with the first game of the night. They will battle it out against the Cleveland Guardians who are making the trek to the Motor City to skate in the historic Masonic Temple drill hall. If you have never seen a men's roller derby game before, the hits are hard and the bruises and bumps are real. You will get hooked instantly!

There will be plenty of family friendly fun at half time including games and prizes for the kids.

Detroit Roller Derby will also be collecting items for people currently undergoing cancer treatments at the Championship bout. It's the vision of D-Funk Allstar skater, Brazen Kane. She's been gathering things like fleece blankets, warm socks, head wraps, applesauce cups, crossword puzzles and hard candies for her "Chemo Comfort Bags" since 2013. That's when she became inspired by a friend's mom who was carrying the comforts of home to her long chemotherapy treatments in a grocery bag.

Tickets are currently available for the Saturday, March 18th game here. Doors open at 5:00pm. The first game starts at 6:00pm. They are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.

The Masonic Temple is the largest venue of its kind in the entire world. It's located at 500 Temple Street in Detroit. There is plenty of parking on site.
