DETROIT — An Inkster man was charged in the shooting death of a nurse who was kidnapped outside a Detroit hospital in May, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.

Patrice Wilson, 29, from Redford, was found shot to death inside her SUV on May 13 at a Novi apartment complex after she was kidnapped earlier that day at 7:53 a.m. when leaving her job at the Detroit Receiving Hospital on the 4200 block of St. Antoine St. in Detroit, prosecutors said.

Miller pleaded not guilty and was ordered to jail without bond. He faces up to life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors believe Miller was disguised in a wig, hat and glasses, while waiting outside the hospital for Wilson to get into her black 2020 Lincoln Nautilus after work.

As Wilson was getting into her SUV, Miller approached her and forced his way into the SUV, pushing Wilson inside, prosecutors said.

Miller then fired a handgun at Wilson multiple times through the back passenger side of the vehicle, killing her, prosecutors said. Officials said Miller then got into the driver's seat and sped away from the hospital.

Prosecutors said the investigation led Detroit Police to evidence in Inkster, Garden City and Novi, before officers ultimately found Wilson's body in the back of the SUV at an apartment complex in Novi.

Miller surrendered to officials after learning police were looking for him in connection to the kidnapping and killing, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Miller was the boyfriend of Wilson, whom they believe wanted to end their relationship at the time of her death.

"A hard working and dedicated nurse that was simply trying to live her life and end a relationship was murdered. It is alleged that the defendant would not let her go," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "People were outraged when she was seen being forcibly taken from her job at the end of her shift. But this is what domestic violence looks like."
