EX-Buffalo Bills NFL Player Shot in Detroit 'Execution-Style' Slayings: Police

Former NFL player Robert Eddins and another man were found fatally shot in the basement of Detroit home.

(Updated) DETROIT, MI — Robert Eddins, 28, a defensive end for the Buffalo Bills in 2011, was found shot to death Tuesday in a Detroit home on the 7900 block of Pierson Street in what police have described as "execution-style" shootings, according to media reports.

The father of one of the victims found the two men about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police think the two men had been there for several hours. Both men died of "multiple gunshot wounds," Lloyd Jackson, a spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office, told The Detroit News.

Eddins' mother, Bidgett, had become concerned when repeated attempts to reach him had failed. She was caring for Eddins' 4-year-old son had been trying to reach him since about 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Eddins told the newspaper that she knew something had happened to her son and asked her ex-husband to go to the house and see if he could reach them.

"I knew something was wrong," Eddins told The News Wednesday. "He would've called back."

Eddins said she is "just blank" after learning of her son's murder. "I don't know what to say."

Robert Eddins had played football at Detroit Crockett High School at Ball State University before his brief, one-game career as an undrafted rookie for the Buffalo Bills in 2011.

The crime scene was described as “pretty gruesome,” Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said. There were no witnesses and police don't have a motive.

(Patch's earlier report)WDIV-TV reported that the two men were found in the basement of the home by one of the men's father. Both had been shot. WXYZ-TV said the men had been shot multiple times.

The second man was identified as Ricky McFarland, 32.

Police said they don't have a motive for the shootings and are continuing to investigate, WWJ/CBS Detroit reported.
