Legal Aid and Defender Association to Host Jazz and Wine Fundraiser at Sexy Steak
Evening event will support free civil legal services for low-income residents across Metro Detroit
The Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. (LADA) will host an Evening of Jazz and Wine Fundraiser on Tuesday, July 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Castle Hall inside Sexy Steak at 1924 Grand River Ave. in downtown Detroit.
The event will bring together community members for an evening of wine tastings, live jazz and small bites, all in support of expanding access to civil legal services for low-income residents across Metro Detroit.
Guests will enjoy a curated selection of premium wines from California and Italy, paired with passed small plates and a live performance from jazz trio Djangophonique. Proceeds will directly support LADA’s work assisting individuals, families and veterans in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

“Every day, LADA helps individuals and families navigate life-changing legal challenges that can affect their housing, income, safety and stability,” said Michelle L. Johnson, president and CEO of LADA. “This fundraiser is an opportunity for our community to come together, raise awareness about the urgent need for civil legal aid, and invest in services that help our neighbors move forward with dignity and hope.”
Founded in 1909, LADA provides free civil legal services to residents who cannot afford representation. In the past three years alone, the organization has represented more than 2,500 tenants in court and provided legal assistance to more than 570 veterans.

“Under Michelle Johnson’s leadership, LADA’s staff provides essential legal services to those who need them most,” said Erica Fitzgerald, vice president of the Legal Aid and Defenders Board. “At a time when many are looking for meaningful ways to give back, this event offers an opportunity to support access to justice in our community.”
