Michigan Opera Theatre Plays 12 Hour Show In Old Detroit Theater
The performance of "Bliss" was the first live act in the building since it was converted into a parking garage in 1976.

DETROIT — The Michigan Opera Theatre performed a 12 hour rendition of "Bliss" inside the iconic Michigan Building Theatre on Saturday.
The re-creation of Ragnar Kjartansson's 12-hour performance piece marked the first live act in the Michigan Building Theatre on Bagley Street since it was converted into a parking structure in the 1970s.
Originally built in 1926, the Michigan Theater was hailed as "the great showplace of the middle west." But in 1976, the theater was stripped of its seating and turned into a four-story parking garage. However, the ornate staging area, upper balcony, projection booth and lobby was all left intact.
