Detroit Teen Charged After Shooting Dad, Stealing Car: Prosecutor (patch.com) — Detroit residents are learning more about a shocking case in which prosecutors say a 13-year-old boy shot his father at a home on Bretton Street, then fled in his dad's car with the family dog. The teen was later arrested in Ohio and now faces adult-designated charges, including assault with intent to murder, giving a judge the option of imposing either juvenile or adult sentencing if he's convicted.
   

2. Wayne County Treasurer Sabree and Mayor Sheffield Announce Return of PAYS Foreclosure Prevention Program (yemeniamerican.com) — Detroit property owners facing back taxes should know the Pay As You Stay (PAYS) foreclosure-prevention program is being renewed, with details announced today by Wayne County Treasurer Eric Sabree and Mayor Mary Sheffield. Qualifying HOPE exemption recipients can significantly reduce delinquent property taxes, and officials, community leaders, and assistance staff will gather at 11036 Chalmers at 10 a.m. to explain how to get help.
   

3. 'Go 4 It': Metro Detroit community assembles more than 1,075 hygiene kits for Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (clickondetroit.com) — Metro Detroit residents rallied to assemble more than 1,075 hygiene kits and raise over $5,800 for Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, which serves about 2,400 people daily. Local groups like Lace Up Detroit and Motown Sole Foundation added shoes, socks, and linens, and Detroiters are encouraged to keep supporting neighbors in need through donations to DRMM.
   

4. Detroit police Chief Todd Bettison gives update on fatal stabbing involving teen, talks Dearborn protest (clickondetroit.com) — Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison says a fatal east side stabbing involving a 17-year-old girl and her boyfriend stemmed from a domestic dispute, with the teen now in custody and no broader threat to residents. Speaking at a large Detroit Police Department community event, he highlighted efforts to combat intimate partner violence, strengthen neighborhood relationships, and deepen regional "One Detroit" cooperation, including with Dearborn police.
   

5. Detroit's Renaissance Center riverfront community hub opens for public input (wxyz.com) — Detroiters can now visit a new Riverfront Community Hub on Atwater Street to help shape the massive redesign of the Renaissance Center and 30 nearby acres. Open four days a week through February, the space lets residents learn about the project, vote on potential attractions, and talk directly with Bedrock Detroit and GM about what they want on their riverfront.
