“The auction is always a good time and one of the highlights of the year,” said Linda Brewer, EFD president. “Last year, we tried something a little different with more of a supper club feeling at North Point. It was met with such success that we decided to do the same concept again this year.”
All funds raised will go to support grants requested by Dexter teachers for learning experiences otherwise unavailable through the school budget. During the 2009-2010 school year, the EFD awarded a total of $55,000 for a broad range of student programs and teacher training in the district. So far this year, the EFD has funded 43 new grants totaling $29,600.
With school districts across the state tightening their budgets, programs provided by organizations such as the EFD are needed now more than ever, Brewer said.
“The standard of life and economic viability of the Dexter community depends heavily on the quality of our educational system," she said. "Our community and schools must combine local resources and initiative to enhance our children’s educational experience."
Tickets for the event cost $75 in advance or $85 at the door and may be purchased online.
