Colonial Weaver Leads Craft Fair: 1st Presbyterian of Farmington
Deborah Draper brings her talents to Michigan
Six years ago Deborah Draper moved to Michigan from Virginia with her husband, Bill. While in Virginia, Deborah was a Colonial weaver. She hoped to continue her weaving as well as share and sell her woven items in Michigan. During the process of house hunting, Deborah and Bill met Paul Melrose, husband of Sue Melrose, then the minister at First Presbyterian Church of Farmington. In speaking with Mr. Melrose, Deborah and Bill mentioned they were very active in their church in Virginia. Mr. Melrose immediately invited them to visit First Presbyterian Church. Once their move was complete they accepted his invitation, found a welcoming community and , soon after, became members.
Deborah participated in many juried craft shows in Virginia. and wanted to get her name out to crafters in Michigan so she decided to host a craft show in her home. The show was part craft, part bake sale, and supported by numerous church members. That 1st show was a success and the event quickly out grew Deborah's home. The following year the Craft Show was held it at First Presbyterian and began to be known as a First Presbyterian Church of Farmington event. This year marks the 4th annual craft show and bake sale. It will take place Saturday November 16th from 10:00 - 4:00. Deborah has established herself in SE Michigan and over 40 unique crafters, some of whom signed up as early as May to participate, will be present. The Crafters include authors, jewery makers, and felt animals creators. Woven items, beaded accessories and much much more will be available for that special homemade gift you would like to pick up for friends and family. Among other things, like homemake coconut cream pie, the bake sale features a popular nut roll which sells out quickly. These homemade nut rolls can be ordered and picked up at the show. To order one please send a check for $10.00 to First Presbyterian Church (FPC)/26165 Farmington Road/Farmington Hills, MI 48334 and write nut roll on the memo line. Orders must be received at the church no later than November 11, 2019. Ask for Deborah, she'll be eager to meet and greet you, talk with you about weaving, and show you around.
