Community Choice Credit Union volunteers 439 hours of service during Give Big Weekend

Community Choice Credit Union put its philosophy of giving big into action during the seventh annual Give Big Weekend from September 24 – 28, 2015. Each year, Credit Union employees and their families gather to volunteer and raise funds for non-profits around metro Detroit. This year, more than 439 hours of service were given by nearly 200 volunteers.

Community Choice Credit Union launched the Give Big philosophy in 2008 as a way to give back to its members and neighbors, and it has become a way of life at the Credit Union. It can be seen in the scholarships awarded by the Community Choice Foundation, rewards given to members for using Credit Union products and services, the annual Give Big Weekend, and the simple kindness shown amongst team members. Since 2008, more than 14,500 volunteer hours and nearly $1 million has been donated to charitable programs in Michigan.

Give Big Weekend 2015 included the following meaningful accomplishments…

Keeping neighbors warm

More than 100 fleece blankets were made by Community Choice Credit Union team members during Give Big Weekend. The blankets will be donated to South Oakland Warming Center, Safe Haven and Pathways of Michigan.

Running for charity

Community Choice Credit Union sponsored The Royal Run, a walk/run event held on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Inch Memorials in Northville, Michigan. Members of the public and Credit Union supporters dressed up like kings, queens, princes and princesses to raise funds for local charities.

Playing games and supporting children

On Saturday, Sept. 26, team members visited girls at Vista Maria, a charity that helps women and children who have experienced abuse, to spend a joyous day playing board games.

Caring for a garden

At Earthworks Urban Farm in Detroit on Saturday, Sept. 26, team members tended to the garden that supplies food to Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Sharing a meal

At Grace Centers of Hope in Pontiac, Michigan, an estimated 120 meals were served on Sunday, Sept. 27 to individuals overcoming homelessness and addiction.

Cleaning up local parks

Hines and Cass Benton parks in Northville, Michigan are cleaner, safer places to play after volunteers collected more than 25 bags of debris on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Giving blood

A blood drive with the American Red Cross was held at Community Choice Credit Union’s headquarters on Monday, Sept. 28. Donors gave 28 pints of blood that can help save up to 84 lives.
