Crime Report: Armed Robber Hits 7-Eleven on Middlebelt in Farmington Hills

Farmington Hills police are looking for a man who six witnesses said robbed a 7-Eleven on Middlebelt at gunpoint early Sunday morning.Β 

According to the report, a man dressed in dark jeans, a white, long-sleeved shirt and black hat walked into the store wearing a cloth over his face and showing a handgun in the waistband of his jeans. The report indicated that a customer walked in while the robbery was in progress, and the gunman ordered him to leave or be killed. The customer ran out, calling to friends in the parking lot to call police. After the gunman took cash and cigarettes, he ran out of the building, and another witness in the parking lot chased him, but lost him west of a nearby strip mall. A Southfield Police K9 unit tracked the suspect to Colgate, where the trail ended, according to the report.Β 

Thefts from vehicles

Sometime between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 10:44 a.m. Saturday, someone entered an unlocked vehicle on Colgate and took a gym bag, phone charger and small change. According to the report, the owner told police he forgot to lock the vehicle before going to bed.Β

Four tires and rims were taken from a Mercedes Benz parked in a lot near the showroom at Suburban Honda over the weekend. According to the report, the equipment was valued at $2,500.Β 

Damage to property

Sometime over the weekend, two vehicles parked next to each other in a lot on Hills Tech Drive suffered damage. According to the report, someone smashed out a window and spray painted symbols on the back window of one vehicle, and broke glass on the driver's side window of the other. Graffiti was also painted on a sign near the vehicles.Β

Narcotics arrests

A 54-year-old Livonia man faces charges of marijuana possession and drunken driving, after police found his vehicle pulled off the road near Harrison High School shortly after midnight on Saturday. According to the report, officers found the man lying in the vehicle and covered by plastic grocery bags. The report indicated police had trouble waking the man, who became belligerent and refused sobriety and preliminary breath tests. Police found an open 1-gallon gas can that had leaked onto the carpet and a baggie of marijuana inside the vehicle.Β 

An 18-year-old Farmington Hills man faces charges of marijuana possession and being a minor in possession of alcohol, after police responded to a 911 hang-up call at 12:37 a.m. Friday. According to the report, police arrived at a residence on 13 Mile to find 12-15 people sitting on the home's back deck. While speaking with the 18-year-old, police noticed a strong odor of intoxicants and marijuana. The man's mother told police she called 911 during an altercation with her son. A search of the 18-year-old turned up two baggies of marijuana. Because heΒ plead guilty to marijuana possession in August of 2011 and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, he was held without bond.Β 

A 21-year-old Livonia man faces charges of marijuana possession, after police found a jar of the drug in a vehicle stopped at Drake and Nine Mile late Monday night. According to the report, the man was a passenger in the vehicle, which was stopped for speeding. Police noticed a strong odor of marijuana, and others in the car said the jar wasn't in the vehicle before they picked up the Livonia man.Β 

Indecent exposure

A manger at Michaels on Orchard Lake called police Thursday afternoon, after a customer reported seeing a man exposing and fondling his genitals inside the store. Before police arrived, the man left the store and drove away in a small, dark-colored SUV. According to the report, the manager gave detectives a photo she took of the man when he did the same thing two weeks earlier.Β 

Drunken driving charge

A 29-year-old Canton man faces charges of drunken driving, after police stopped his speeding, heavily damaged vehicle at Grand River and Orchard Lake around 2:46 a.m. Saturday. According to the report, the vehicle had damage to the front and passenger side, was missing a front left tire and was smoking. The driver, who appeared intoxicated, had a cut above his left eye and did not know he had been in an accident and injured. A preliminary breath test showed his blood alcohol was .21, which is twice the .08 legal limit.

Stolen vehicles

On Monday afternoon, Novi Police recovered a vehicle at Regency and Haggerty that had been stolen from Nissan Research and Development in Farmington Hills. According to the report, the vehicle was totalled and sitting in an open field. A company representative told police that an employee left the keys in the vehicle after test driving it.Β 

A resident on Green Hill Road told police on Monday that someone took his maroon 2006 Honda motorcycle over the weekend. According to the report, the man said the cycle had been parked under a carport and covered.Β 

Another Green Hill Road resident told police someone took his purple 2000 Dodge mini-van. According to the report, filed around 6:23 p.m. on Monday, the vehicle was parked and locked in a lot, and part of the ignition was found at the scene.Β
