Lighting is a key element in taking good photographs. Both beginning and advanced photographers can learn to take great portraits of family members and friends by learning easy, professional techniques in the new class, “Basic Studio Lighting in Your Home” offered on two different dates, Feb. 9 and 16 from 6-9 p.m.
Instructor Jacob Nothstine will transform Stables Art Studio in Farmington Hills into a portrait studio. Demonstrations of basic lighting techniques will include how to use a key, fill, and hair light together; employing a single flash for portraits; and using multiple strobe light set-ups. Nothstine will also show different light modifiers including umbrella, softbox, grids, strip lights, and beauty dish.
Nothstine, a Ferris State University graduate with a degree in television production, is an award-winning expert in both video and camera lighting. He has done portrait work for weddings, model portfolios, high school senior photos, and newspapers.
