The Longs have assisted the third-grade Kenbrook Elementary School Green Team with their gardening project, teaching them about plants that thrive in Michigan’s climate and assisting them in the growing process, according to a news release.

They have demonstrated and helped students throughout the process, from starting seed in cups to planting young seedlings in the garden to assisting with summer watering and weeding.

“Dianne and Bob are so special because they give so much of themselves to the school and to the students of Kenbrook,” Kenbrook art teacher Jennie Lichtenauer, who nominated the Longs for this award, said in a news release.

“They give so much of themselves without any expectations in return,” Lichtenauer added. “Our garden would not be as wonderful as it is without their help and dedication,”
