Learn about risks of colon cancer at 1st 'Walk with a Doc' for 2016

Free, community event led by a physician who emphasizes exercise and provides health tips

Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills welcomes all to attend its "Walk with a Doc" program on Thursday, March 17, from noon to 1 p.m. This free, community event is led by a physician who emphasizes exercise and provides health tips. Since March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, Mariquit Sendelbach, D.O., a gastroenterologist, will speak about the risks of this deadly, yet preventable and treatable, disease.

"Screening is the best way you can reduce your risk for colon cancer," said Dr. Sendelbach. "Also, you can take charge of your health by knowing your family health history, eating a balanced diet, exercising, limiting alcohol use and not smoking."

The program will be held at the Heritage Park Nature Center in Farmington Hills. The park is on the west side of Farmington Road between 10 and 11 Mile Roads. The event will be held rain or shine. Healthy snacks will be provided. Register by calling 1-877-477-3621, option #1.
