Man Mauled To Death By Family Dog In Oakland County: Police

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — A man was mauled to death by a family dog Saturday in Farmington Hills, according to police.
A family member found the 40-year-old man lying unconscious on the ground with a dog "pulling at his body" in the backyard of a home in the 22000 block of Elmgrove at 8 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
The family member managed to get the dog away from the man and then called police, according to police.

There was no one else at the home when the family member arrived, according to police.
Officers then arrived at the home and found the man suffering from severe dog bite wounds, according to police.

The man was taken to Corewell Hospital in Farmington Hills where he died, according to police.

The dog was described as a "pit bull mix" and was turned over to Oakland County Animal Control, according to police.
The attack comes a few days after a 1-year-old girl and her grandmother were attacked by two family pit bulls inside their Wixom home, according to police.
Investigators are working with family members to determine if the dog had any previous history of aggression or could have been labeled as "dangerous or potentially dangerous" by Farmington Hills City Ordinance, according to police.
