Massey Attends New Mayor School at Harvard

Mayors from large cities attended the Harvard Institute of Politics' leadership seminar.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – Mayor-elect Ken Massey recently joined other newly elected mayors from across the country in Cambridge, MA, where he took part in the Harvard Institute of Politics’ (IOP) Seminar on Transition and Leadership for Newly Elected Mayors.

Every two years, the IOP hosts the country’s preeminent ‎educational and preparatory program for new U.S. mayors. At the Dec. 8-11 seminar, held at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, the new mayors discussed topics such as exercising leadership at their city halls and legislative and policy challenges.

The program, co-sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors, has hosted hundreds of current and former mayors since its inception in 1975. The Institute primarily invites newly-elected mayors from cities with populations of more than 75,000.

Topics in sessions, led by current and former mayors, academics, policy analysts and others, including improving infrastructure, policing and public safety, and real-time crisis communication.

“This specially-targeted seminar at Harvard’s Institute of Politics introduced me to some of the best tools and strategies to maximize my service to the citizens of Farmington Hills,” Massey said in a statement.
