Michigan's Most Dangerous Roundabout of 2020 Revealed

Michigan Auto Law accident analysis list based on car accident reports

Michigan Auto Law has posted its annual list of the state’s most dangerous roundabouts based on car accident data for 2020.

“Drivers either love or hate the roundabouts that have been popping up all over the state,” says Steven Gursten, president of Michigan Auto Law. “Many drivers find them confusing and are nervous when approaching them. Considering the auto accident statistics, their anxiety is well founded.”

In its recently distributed list of Michigan’s Most Dangerous Intersections, Michigan Auto Law reported that four of the top 20 intersections with the most car crashes throughout the state were roundabouts.

Roundabouts’ circular design is intended to allow traffic to move more efficiently and safely through what had previously been congested, traditional intersections – with the goal of reducing the number of fatal and injury-related crashes.

But as accidents continue to occur at roundabouts, so do injuries. Although some injuries are documented in police reports completed at the crash scene, many others are not. The pain, the symptoms and the effects of a serious injury may only begin to become apparent in the hours and days after a car accident.

“We provide this information so drivers are aware of the extra caution needed when driving in these areas and so they can plan alternative routes if needed,” says Gursten “We thank the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reporting Unit for their work in gathering the crash statistics we used in compiling our list of the Most Dangerous Roundabouts.”
