Neighborhood Shop: Annette and Company Shares the Love of Dance

in Farmington Hills has been nurturing the love of dance for 32 years.

Founded by Annette Bergasse, a professional dancer and actor, the school offers classes in a variety of dance mediums and for all levels. From hip hop to jazz, ballet and tap, students will learn the art of dance in a contemporary, fun and “very cool” atmosphere.

“She (Bergasse) wanted to continue her love for dancing and instill it in children,” said Annette Morgan, a dance instructor at the school.

What makes Annette and Company different from other studios is its relaxed atmosphere that allows students to learn and practice dancing while still enjoying their other curricular activities, Morgan said.

In addition to the regular classes, Annette and Company offers a chorus and a competition program, which exposes participants to the thrill of competing and the rewards of winning. 

The school boasts a Hall of Fame that features students who went on to become professional dancers and actors. One of those is Miss America 2008 Kristen Haglund.

But, before striking it big, parents who are looking to expose their preschoolers to dance can enroll them in classes such as pre-tap, pre-ballet or a combo class. Cost for the combined class is $63 per month.

“This way they can get a taste of everything, so when they get older they can decide,” Morgan said.

Whether you’re into hip hop – like so many people are these days, Morgan added – or other dance forms, Annette and Company has eight expert instructors and a beautiful facility ready to get you moving.
