'Very Unusual' Ramming Spree Lands Man in Jail
Farmington Hills police don't know what set off a Novi man who allegedly deliberately rammed his vehicle into a motel and gas station.
A Novi man faces multiple charges after police said he deliberately rammed his pickup into a Farmington Hills motel and then a gas station last weekend, police said.
Farmington Hills Police Commander Matt Koehn told The Farmington Observer/Hometownlife.com that Bryan Lee Hoffmeyer, 58, first crashed his 1993 Ford Ranger into the Motel 6 on Grand River Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, then headed to the Sunoco gas station on Nine Mile and Farmington roads.

Hoffmeyer β became belligerentβ with a clerk inside the gas station, Koehn said, then went outside and began steering his truck toward the wall of the station, nearly hitting the clerk, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being run over.
Hoffmeyer allegedly struck the clerkβs vehicle with his truck, then drove into the double doors of the gas station before fleeing the scene.

Koehn said Hoffmeyer was arrested without incident when police caught up with him at Nine Mile and Middlebelt roads.
Police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the incident, Koehn said. It remains unclear what set off Hoffmeyer, who is a suspect in two other incidents of property damage to businesses.
βThis is a very unusual incident and weβre glad no one was injured ... and weβre glad the officers found him so quickly before anything else happened,β Koehn said.
As of Wednesday night, Hoffmeyer remained in the Oakland County Jail on $25,000 bond/10 percent surety. He was arraigned Sunday in Farmington Hills 47th District Court on one count of felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of malicious destruction of a building and one count of malicious destruction of personal property.
