Most meetings of the Farmington Area Commission on Aging are held at the Costick Center in Farmington Hills. Others are held at Farmington City Hall.

Farmington area officials are looking for an individual motivated to get involved in the community and improve life for the area’s senior citizens in an area that’s already known for services provided to the elderly.

A vacancy on the Farmington Area Commission on Aging is open to an adult of any age who is interested in issues of importance to older residents in the Farmington and Farmington Hills area.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington area is one of two communities in Oakland County to be recognized as a β€œCommunity for a Lifetime” by the Michigan Office of the Services to the Aging, designating that this is an aging-friendly area.

The Commission on Aging is a City Council appointed commission whose purpose is to make the community β€œa great place to live as we grow older.”

The main goals of the commission are to:

  • Play an advisory role for area older adults
  • Act as a resource for referrals
  • Provide education and advocacy
  • Create community awareness about available services and programs
  • Encourage recognition for older adults’ past and present contributions
  • Coordinate with other Commissions such as Children, Youth & Families, Emergency Preparedness, and Parks & Recreation

The Commission on Aging meets at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of most months at the Costick Center, located at 28600 Eleven Mile Road in Farmington Hills (months of April, May, June, September, October, and November) or at Farmington City Hall, located at 23600 Liberty Street in Farmington (months of January, February, and March).

The Commission on Aging does not meet in December, July or August.
