CLARKSTON, MI — A woman shot herself to death Monday morning in the woods near a Clarkston apartment complex where authorities said she fatally shot her boyfriend and brother, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Police launched a search for 22-year-old Ruby Taverner after authorities found 26-year-old Ray Muscat and 25-year-old Bishop Taverner dead in an apartment room at the Independence Square Apartments at 5901 Dixie Highway at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Officials found a Glock 43X handgun near her body, which they believe she used to shoot herself in the head and shoot Muscat and Bishop Taverner to death, officials said.

Officials said Ruby Taverner and Ray Muscat were in a relationship and were living in the apartment room together. Authorities said she ran away from the apartment without her car or cell phone. She also had three weapons registered to her — two 9 mm handguns and a .38-caliber handgun, officials said.

Officials did not release a motive for the killings.

"This tragic situation has now been brought to a close, and our investigators will now pivot to see if we can answer the question on everyone’s mind – why," Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

Officials from multiple Oakland County Sheriff's agencies searched for Taverner on Sunday. Officials resumed the search Monday using used drones and K-9 units when they found her in a wooded area near the apartment complex, officials said.
