REO Town businesses forced to adapt amid economic slowdown (wlns.com) — Small businesses in Lansing's REO Town are tightening their belts and getting creative as customers cut back, with some shops closing and others shifting toward classes, events, and evening programming. The REO Town Commercial Association is offering monthly micro-grants, Good Truckin' is returning with a new concept, and Deadtime Stories plans a sixth-anniversary celebration with giveaways and specials later this month.
   

2. Public comment period for Infrastructure Environmental Services, LLC. Proposed Administrative Consent Order (E-FYYZ-BC3D-PG8G), Oakland County (michigan.gov) — State environmental regulators are inviting public comments on a proposed air-quality consent order, and Lansing residents can weigh in by mail, email, phone, or online between October 12 and November 11. The Air Quality Division's Lansing office is handling written comments, giving locals a direct way to influence a statewide industrial permitting decision.
   

3. Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers build beds for Lansing-area children in need (fox47news.com) — Lansing-area families in need of beds for their children are getting help from Sleep in Heavenly Peace, whose Lansing chapter builds and delivers nearly 1,000 beds a year. Volunteers meet in Haslett on the second and fourth Saturdays to cut lumber, assemble frames, and deliver finished beds, and organizers are actively seeking more volunteers, donations, and new bedding to meet a growing local waitlist.
   

4. Carpentersville's native and MMA fighter designs Hispanic Heritage month t-shirt for firefighters' fundraiser (chicagotribune.com) — A nationally known MMA fighter and artist now based in Lansing is gaining attention for designing a Hispanic Heritage Month T‑shirt supporting Carpentersville firefighters' charity work. He splits his time between training, painting, and barbering, while staying closely connected to both his hometown and his adopted home in Lansing.
   

5. Trail camera catches 2 suspects in Eaton County deer-blind break-in, MSP says (wlns.com) — Michigan State Police from the Lansing Post are asking mid-Michigan residents to help identify two people caught on a trail camera during a break-in at a deer blind in Eaton Township. Suspects reportedly stole a propane tank, heater, and wooden bench sometime in the last two months, and anyone with information is urged to call the MSP Lansing Post and reference the listed complaint number.
