New Management Takes Over Ambulatory Surgery Center at Beaumont Macomb

Nueterra became a new owner and manager of the ambulatory surgery center at the Beaumont Medical Center in Macomb on Jan. 1.

For the new management of the ambulatory surgery center at in Macomb Township, the first order of business is to lower costs and add surgeons to enhance patient care. 

A developer and manager of health system or physician-owned surgical facilities and community hospitals throughout the country, Nueterra assumed day-to-day management of the surgery center on Jan. 1. The company also joined Beaumont Health System and physician investors in ownership of the center, although it will not have the equity ownership of the others.

“Our new relationship with Beaumont Health System is the result of Nueterra’s focus on developing innovative strategies that help health systems achieve their long-term goals for growth and profitability,” said Nueterra CEO David Ayers, in a prepared statement. “We are excited to work with Beaumont, a nationally renowned leader in surgical services, and with local physicians and the center’s excellent surgical staff in the delivery of high- quality, efficient outpatient surgical care.”

Nueterra currently operates 77 facilities in 27 states.

“Nueterra has developed successful strategic relationships with more than 20 health systems and 1,500 physicians across the country,” said Derk Pronger, vice president of Surgical and Ancillary Services at Troy Beaumont, in a prepared statement. “We look forward to working with them and our outstanding physicians in providing compassionate, effective surgical care for patients using the latest technology and expertise.”

The ASC in Macomb Township opened in April 2007 and currently offers same-day general surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, ear, nose and throat, gastroenterology, endoscopy and pain management.

“Providing health care in today’s economic and political climate is very challenging because of the many changes in the health care world,” said Michael Busuito, M.D., president of the ASC Board, in a prepared statement. “Ambulatory surgery centers across the country have demonstrated their ability to provide efficient, convenient and cost effective surgical care to local communities.”

A Kansas-based company, Nueterra also operates the Mackinaw Surgery Center in Saginaw, MI.
