Two Recovery Project Physical Therapists Earn Certified Geriatric Specialist Certifications
Polly Swingle, PT, GCS, CEEAA and Gwen Dani, MPT, GCS, CEEAA become two of 36 in Michigan to earn prestigious geriatric certification.

Macomb Twp.-based The Recovery Project, a leading provider of physical therapy to people with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and other neurological disorders, announced today that co-CEO and lead physical therapist Polly Swingle, PT, GCS, CEEAA, and Gwen Dani, MPT, GCS, CEEAA have earned their Geriatric Certified Specialist (GCS) certifications from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists (ABPTS.) The Recovery Project co-CEO Charles Parkhill made the announcement.
Administered by the ABPTS to qualified professionals once per year, the certification is designed to recognize physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge and experience, and to help consumers identify area specialists. To achieve the accreditation, physical therapists must undergo an extensive examination in the designated specialty area, and submit evidence of 2,000 or more hours of direct patient care. Only 36 physical therapists in Michigan have earned this certification to date.

Swingle is co-CEO and lead physical therapist of The Recovery Project. She possesses extensive more than 20 years of experience specializing in rehabilitative therapy for spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and neuromuscular disorders, including eight years at the Detroit Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. Swingle is a Project Walk Certified Trainer, a certified clinician in the practice of LSVT®BIG - therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease, a Certified Exercise Experts for Aging Adults (CEEAA), and is certified in neuro-developmental treatment, Burdenko therapy and Pilates. She earned her degree in physical therapy from Ohio University.
Dani has more than 18 years of experience in physical therapy, including four years in head injury and outpatient neurological/orthopedic rehabilitation at the Detroit Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, and three years as physical therapy director of the outpatient orthopedic clinic. Dani is a Certifiec Exercise Expert for Aging Adults (CEEAA), and is also certified in Burdenko therapy, strength and conditioning, and LSVT®BIG. She earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University, and her master’s degree in physical therapy from Washington University.
