• Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit opens new Madison Heights location to help families in need (wxyz.com) — A major regional nonprofit has just opened a new Furniture Bank of Metro Detroit facility in Madison Heights, near Townley and Whitcomb, to provide low-cost furniture to families recovering from hardship. Local residents, including Mayor Corey Haines, celebrated the opening, which lets referred clients choose essential items like beds, sofas, and chairs for a flat $125 fee, funded largely by community donations.
   

• 45 Hispanic students attended Lamphere High School in 2024-25 (seoaklandnews.com) — Lamphere Public Schools, headquartered in Madison Heights, reports that Lamphere High School enrolled 45 Hispanic students in 2024-25, a 28.6% increase from the prior year. The data show overall enrollment, shifting demographics, and how Lamphere compares across its seven schools and to statewide Michigan trends since before the pandemic.
   

• Child killers sentenced to life in prison without parole (theoaklandpress.com) — A Madison Heights man and his girlfriend have been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2024 beating death of her 6-year-old son. Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren also imposed lengthy concurrent sentences for child abuse, weapons offenses, and lying to police, with both defendants remaining in custody awaiting transfer to state prison.
