📰 News we're reading

• Former Oak Park clerk sues city, alleging religious discrimination and privacy breach (mlive.com) — A former records clerk is suing the City of Oak Park and three employees, alleging religious discrimination, harassment, and an improper search of confidential police records about her past. Filed in Oakland County Circuit Court, the case claims city staff made anti-Muslim remarks, spread degrading rumors, and misused a secure database, leading to her medical leave and job loss.

• Judge: Woman accused in hit and run that injured child can get out of jail if monitored by GPS (theoaklandpress.com) — An Oak Park woman charged in a July hit-and-run that critically injured an 8-year-old in Royal Oak Township may be released from jail on a reduced personal bond with GPS monitoring. The 27-year-old is accused of leaving the scene on Eight Mile near Wyoming and driving on a suspended license, and she's due back in court Sept. 10.

• Ypsilanti library closes temporarily due to bedbug sighting (clickondetroit.com) — A temporary closure of Ypsilanti's downtown library over bedbugs comes with a reminder that Oak Park's public library also briefly shut down for the same issue in 2024. The story explains how libraries handle infestations, including barring patrons with active problems until they show proof of treatment, underscoring how easily bedbugs can spread through shared public spaces.
