Part-time, hourly position as Park and Recreation Casual Worker for the Oakland Township Parks and Recreation Commission (PRC).

The Park and Recreation Casual Worker will be directly supervised by the Parks Maintenance Foreman and the Recreation Manager. The Maintenance Foreman and Recreation Manager report to the Park and Recreation Director and PRC which is responsible for approximately 1100 acres in five major parks as well as the Oakland Township portion of the Paint Creek Trailway.
Maintains/repairs park structures and grounds including play structures, outbuildings, picnic pavilions, storage buildings, restrooms, fencing, stairs, signs, parking lots, landscaping, trails, boardwalks and recreation facilities such as recreation areas, sled hill, ice rink and athletic fields and courts.
Inspects park areas on foot and/or by vehicle to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Set up and take down of recreation equipment and monitor condition of equipment and facility.
Assist staff in coordination of maintenance and operations of athletic fields and recreational facilities.

Monitors participants, facilities and grounds during park and recreational programs and special events.
Regular trash removal from parks as well as picking up debris and materials.
Removal/pruning of smaller fallen and/or hazardous trees.
Other duties as assigned including but not limited to snow plowing park parking lots, snow removal from asphalt pathways, ice rink resurfacing, painting of athletic fields, and sled hill maintenance,
Ability to work in Word and Excel Software.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED; minimum two years working knowledge of facilities and grounds maintenance; valid Michigan driver’s license; ability to take direction and work independently or with other employees, ability to interpret and work with maps/plans. Individual should be physically able to bike/hike in parks and on the Paint Creek Trailway. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, or as needed in adverse weather conditions. Education or technical training in parks and recreation management, environmental studies, and/or building/landscape maintenance and/or athletic field or turf managment preferred.
Pay Rate, Starting Date and Work Schedule: Pay shall be 14.00 per hour. Starting December 9th, 2013 employee will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week.
