Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Canton Road Rage Shooting: Police

Jacor Burch, 21, was charged with first-degree homicide and felony firearm possession. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life.

PLYMOUTH-CANTON, MI — A man was charged in connection to a fatal road rage shooting in Canton Township, officials announced Monday.

Jacor Burch, 21, was charged with first-degree homicide and felony firearm possession, officials said. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life in prison. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 5 at the 35th District Court.

Police said Burch fatally shot Michael Paul, 37, of Belleville numerous times in broad daylight around 5:18 p.m. June 10 during a road rage dispute on Haggerty Road between Palmer Road and Michigan Avenue.

After the shooting, Burch drove away north on Haggerty Road in a gray 2013-2017 Chevrolet Equinox, police said. He was eventually arrested on July 7 in Illinois and brought back to Michigan, police said.

Maria Phillips, 33, was also charged in connection to the shooting after police linked her newer-model white Dodge Ram pickup truck to the scene. She was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
