Preliminary findings show “all department policies and procedures in this incident were followed and the officer’s use of force was justified,” Gibraltar’s Williams said in the statement.
The matter has been turned over to the Michigan State Police’s Special Investigation Section, which is conducting interviews and collecting evidence while awaiting autopsy reports.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office will review the SIS findings and determine if charges should be filed, according to the Michigan State Police statement.
The officer, whose name and rank aren’t being released, has been placed on administrative leave pending completion of the State Police investigation.
