Our Lady of Fatima Statue Coming to Metro Detroit Parishes

The statue has been known to weep, and those visiting it have reported miracles, the Archdiocese of Detroit says.

METRO DETROIT, MI — Catholics at two parishes in Detroit and Royal Oak have already seen a statue known for miracles and healing, and more will see the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima this week.

The tour of the world-famous International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima is a nation-wide call to prayer and penance for peace in our nation and conversion of hearts, according to the Archdiocese of Detroit, which made arrangements for area parishes to be part of the tour.

Michelle St. Pierre, a spokesperson for the Archdiocese, told WWJ/CBS Detroit the statue has “been known to weep.” Those who have visited it have reported miraculous healings and conversions of heart, she said.
It has traveled the world 200 times, including in China and the former Soviet Union.

The current tour commemorates the 100th anniversaries of an Angel of Peace, which is said to have appeared as apparitions before young shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, on the 13th day of the months of May through October 1917.

The Angel of Peace is said to have have given the message to the children to be “fervent in working for the salvation of souls and the conversion of sinners, especially through penance and the praying of the daily rosary. She identified the conversion of sinners as key to peace in the world.”

The statue represents heaven, according to St. Pierre, who said, “She is our mother, asking us to pray for peace.”
