Plymouth Township Residents Get Five-Year-Old Sidewalk Assessments in Tax Bill

Ousted treasurer Ron Edwards doesn't know how assessment was overlooked; says, 'I don't work there anymore.'

(Originally posted on Dec. 21, 2016) PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — About 800Plymouth Township residents received long-overdue assessments for sidewalk work completed six years ago in their winter tax bills. New Plymouth Township Treasurer Mark Clinton told The Plymouth Observer the $155,000 in assessments had been overlooked, but were brought to his attention shortly after he took office by deputy treasurer Amy Hammye.

The surprised homeowners "have been very understanding," he told The Observer. "We didn't do as good a job as we should have of invoicing the services provided."

Clinton, who defeated five-term treasurer Ron Edwards in the August Republican primary and took office Nov. 20 after defeating Democrat Mary Siefert in the general election, said he's not sure why the assessment notices were overlooked.
