The teen’s boyfriend, Michael A. Rivera, 23, of Detroit, was arraigned Sunday on similar charges, and is being held in the Wayne County Jail, also on $1 million bond. He is also expected to face charges for an alleged physical relationship he had with the 15-year-old. The family was pursuing sexual assault charges against Rivera at the time of the attack, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Laurene and Jeffrey Sikorski, the teen’s parents, were described by Plymouth Township Police Lt. Bob Antal as “very distraught” and “very concerned for their daughter.”

After Thursday’s arraignment, Laurene Sikorski told The Detroit News the normally “sweet” teenager “fell under the spell” of her adult boyfriend. The two had met on Facebook in March and her behavior changed, her family said.
“He was using her to do his dirty work,” Laurene Sikorski told The Detroit News. “She fell under his spell.”
The Sikorski family adopted the 15-year-old teen and her biological siblings, Lukas and Angelica, a decade ago from an abusive home in Poland, where they had “a horribly traumatic background,” Detroit attorney Leslie Posner said. She reportedly has exhibited signs of depression and other problems, and the Sikorski family wants her back home with them so she can receive treatment.
“We’re not disowning her,” Laurene Sikorski said. “We’re not going to throw her back.”
During Thursday’s arraignment in 35th District court, Judge James Plakas made a rare exception and allowed the parents to have contact with their daughter. She is prohibited from contacting her other siblings.
“We have a very strong bond with our daughter,” Laurene Sikorski said. “We’d like to be supportive at this time, and I think it’s important that we do have contact with her.
“I think she just thought this guy loved her and she wanted to do whatever he told her, and she was very vulnerable and she has a mental disorder and she needs help,” Sikorski said, according to a report on WDIV, Channel 4. “I want to make sure she gets help.”
Though Roksana Sikorski was allegedly the one who stabbed her brother multiple times in the throat, Rivera was reportedly texting directions from outside the home. Her brother’s screams awoke the family and the pair fled. They were arrested about 8 a.m. Friday morning on Detroit’s southwest side.
The boy is expected to recover.
